Who We Are

Mission Statement

The purposes of Baptist Women in Ministry in North Carolina (BWIM, NC) are "to provide a network of support, fellowship, worship, advocacy and education for Baptist women and men who are seeking to honor God's call in Christ to women in all areas of mission and ministry, lay or ordained; and to dialogue and share information with North Carolina Baptists concerning women in missions and ministry for the purpose of increasing understanding and awareness of our calling as women and men in Christ."

Who are we?

We are women and men.
We are clergy and laypersons.
We are young and old and in-between.

We are people who celebrate
God's calling to ministry,
both women and men.

We are people who support
the right of all people
to follow God's call.

We are people who are
committed to the
opening of doors,
the breaking down of walls,
until in Christ there is truly
"neither male and  female for all are one."

Where We Have Been...

In 1983, a group of women and men met at College Park Baptist Church, Greensboro, NC, to discuss the formation of an organization that would serve as a network of support, fellowship, education, and worship for the SBC women in North Carolina.  The twenty-five women and men present voted unanimously to establish a task force to work toward a formal organization.  Seven persons were named to the Task Force.  A year later, a statement of purpose was adopted, and Baptist Women in Ministry, NC (BWIM,NC) was born.

Where We Are...

Some women have the opportunity to follow God's calling in their lives, doing that which they are both gifted and called to do.  Some women are struggling to open doors, while others are having to find their way around doors that remain closed.  Some are isolated, while others find much support.  Some women are just beginning to wonder if God could be calling them to ministry and what that means.

Where We Are Going...

Baptist Women in Ministry, NC is committed to continuing to work for the day when both women and men have the opportunity to follow God's call to ministry.  By helping to fund scholarships and internships for Baptist women, we provide opportunities for divinity school students to gain training and experience in all areas of ministry.  With the annual Anne Thomas Neil Award,  we recognize someone who has made outstanding contributions to the cause of women in ministry.
